Employee Volunteers

The tradition of community support runs deep at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and volunteerism is a key aspect of how we give back. As an organization that truly cares about the health and well-being of our communities, we strive to establish meaningful opportunities to connect our employees with their communities and our partners in impactful ways.

The essential components of that value are achieved through several outreach initiatives, including:

Matching Dollars program – For every volunteer hour that a BCBSTX employee spends with a qualified nonprofit organization, that partner can receive $20 per hour, up to a total of $2,000 annually. In 2014, 86 community partners received a total of $88,000 in matching dollars.

Blue Corps Volunteers – In 2014, employees made us proud by demonstrating a caring spirit. Over 1,627 Blue Corps volunteers were active in Texas communities and donated 28,882 personal volunteer hours to support hundreds of causes throughout the state.

Standing Together Week – BCBSTX’s annual caring drive kicked off with a week-long campaign educating employees on how to get involved. Scheduled activities allowed employees to help the community by giving time, money or things.
